Mud, Mud and more mud ( an Easter at Hoveton)
Although Thursday was a fine day and we pitched most of the units, the heavens opened for the rest of the weekend. However the spirits were not dampened and true DA camping friendship shone through;
A quiz night followed by 2 nights of excellent entertainment and all the Easter competitions keep everyone happy. There was also time for many to take a boat Trip and enjoy the location and surrounding area.
Monday was a very wet day and our thanks go to all who helped push, tow and coerce caravans and cars off the site. Late on the cavalry arrived in the form of a large tractor arranged by the local Sea Scouts, with the help of the caretaker removing additional fence panels all who needed to be off went on there weary and muddy way.
Regional presentation.
At our AGM Michael Lawler was presented with the Regional photographic trophy for his winning entry for the 2018 Handbook cover
Just a few photos from the Easter Meet
the following is a google translation from our Dutch friends attending our Easter Meet
Literally back to the base. No camper, caravan or as in our case a trailer, but back to camping with the tent.
Because we are also a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club (the friendly club) we sometimes do a camping weekend in England. So ok this time. At Easter we participated in the Easter Meet of Norfolk and Suffolk District Association. This is the region of our members Andy and Vicky Barker and John and Jane Read.
On Friday morning we left around 9 AM from Maidstone from Sarah’s address to her parents for a ride of about 3 hours. We thought then. Unfortunately, it took a lot longer. No accidents, but busy on the road. In the end we only drove around.
Upon arrival in Hoveton, on the grounds of St John’s Community School, we were warmly welcomed by the organization of the weekend. After we had the tent, it was time to catch up with coffee or tea with a hot cross Bun (comparable to a currant bun).
After supper we were expected in the evening in the auditorium of the school where we played several quisses. This remains for me when it comes to typically English matters. Nevertheless, we have learned a few things again.
On Saturday, the day was at leisure. So together with Andy and Vicky we walked the puzzle tour and at the same time made some purchases for the bbq. Although we had previously been in Wrexham, you can see that in a different way, such as an old signal box for changing the train tracks. After the bbq the evening entertainment took place in the auditorium with comedienne and singer Ali James. And she was funny.
On Sunday it was of course Easter, and the eggs hunt for the children was not to be missed. Unfortunately not outside because of the wetness. Luckily it became dry for a while and could take the boot outside. Both we have not thrown far enough, due no price for us.
Thanks to Vicky, we were able to enjoy a Sunday Roast in the caravan consisting of chicken from the oven, various vegetables, roast potatoes and of course the dessert was not missing either.
In the afternoon, Norfolk and Suffolk District Association held its general members’ meeting. As a guest I was allowed to attend this members meeting. Nice to see how she does things. In the evening there was live entertainment again, that time from Marc James. And again it was fun.
We enjoyed this Easter weekend. We have only one request from the organization for the next time: Can it be a bit the dryer?
